a tale of two sofas

well. i have been -- let's say, nudging my husband a great deal recently about how much i want a 'new' couch. not a new from the store couch, mind you, we're college students. can't afford that kind of nonsense. but a new to us couch. something more comfortable than the one we have, basically. i love the couch we have, but its time has come.

we'll call this the OBC (the Old Brown Couch). the OBC just wasn't cutting it anymore. long had we loved her, long had she served us.....but things were a little.... how can i put this politely -- saggy -- for the OBC.

we found ourselves a great cheap leather loveseat for $25 on craigslist. even we can afford 25 dollars. we went over to look at it, and it was great, just a little.....small. we're just used to a normal full-sized couch, and weren't ready to move to a loveseat. there is not room in our apartment for TWO couches! no room.

so while we were there looking at the fabulous! cheap! leather! loveseat, she mentioned she had the matching full sized couch she wouldn't mind getting rid of either..... sooooo we asked to see that one.

that one, my friends was the Dog Couch (DC). now, friends, the DC has seen better days as well -- it hasn't been loved. the dogs i'm sure loved it, but it has because of that gotten REALLY DIRTY. like REALLY DIRTY. and i didn't think you'd fully understand that w/o a picture.

we started cleaning, when i realized that i *HAD* to take pictures so i could blog this. consequently, in this picture, we've cleaned one of the cushions. can you guess which one??

(hint: not the right, and not the left)

so anywhos, the DC was the couch that these two HUGE DOGS basically hung out on. and now it is the couch that WE hang out on. it is still structurally sound (remember the OBC? couldn't have that again) -- and although we spent several hours together cleaning it, the DC only cost us $50. what a steal, right?

she cleans up nice.

Celebrate, Celebrate!

Two big reasons to CELEBRATE:

#1 -- 300 posts at the sassy lime!!! HOORAY!!

you guys are great readers. i write about a popcorn kernel stuck in my teeth, and you sympathize with me. you keep coming back even though i complain about my headaches, meds, doctors, etc. all the time. i love you guys. thanks for making blogging so much fun!

#2 -- my brother is coming home this weekend!!! HOORAY!!!

he's been serving a full-time LDS mission in Texas for the past 2 years. i haven't seen him for 2 years, and have been writing him snail-mail. we're picking him up from the airport on sunday!

so this was weird

a few days ago, spencer and i ate popcorn for lunch. (that's not the weird part).

i felt like i had a kernel stuck between my last tooth, and that mooshy part of your gum behind your last tooth. not pleasant.

so i've been flossing like a fiend trying to get it out.

no luck.

so i tell spencer i want him to look back there. this is not easily accomplished.

first i lay down with my head tilted back, he shines the flashlight in there, and holds the mini-mirror in my mouth too. he can't see. my cheek is in the way, and i keep fogging up the mirror.

which causes him to ask in frustration, 'isn't this thing MADE for looking in your mouth?' i didn't know if it's possible to have anti-fog mirrors. turns out they have them, they're just expensive.

sooooo he asks if i have a tongue depressor or something else i'd feel comfortable having in my mouth. like a pen. i said if he washed it we could put it in my mouth - i'm such a stickler for cleanliness! he says, what about a fork? i say, 'how 'bout a spoon?'

we're on our way again.

so now there are more implements than he has hands. things are getting complicated. mirror, spoon, flashlight.

i fog up the mirror again.

'you need to hold your breath, i can't see anything'.

sooooo i hold my breath. unfortunately, about this time i start to think this is really funny, especially looking up at my (kind sweet) husband, who is peering into my mouth with an intense concentration i rarely see when he's not working on the computer.

i start laughing. a lot.

he's not pleased.

sorry, i say, i just had the giggles. let's try again.

but we try again and i can't help laughing again -- this is too funny!

spencer, however, is not amused. he's trying to help me and i'm giggling.

time to get serious. my intrepid husband is about to back out, and then what will i do? i can't look in there myself, i've already tried.

again he shines the flashlight in there, moves my cheek out of the way with the spoon, and then i hold my breath and he sticks the mirror in there. (which reminds me i forgot all about the tongue problems.) sheesh.

after all this, the verdict is: it looks a little more swollen than the other parts.

that's IT?!?!

oh dear.

his advice (remember, he is not a dentist, he only plays one on TV) is to let the kernel work itself out. stop flossing, b/c what if i'm pushing it up further?

so it is.

you may be wondering why i don't go to a dentist.

we don't have dental insurance. like, at all. sooooo we wait. hopefully things get better -- if not, i may just make a $100 trip to the dentist to remove a popcorn kernel.

what's a girl to do?

DRYMOUTH.

this is something i'd never really thought about.

until it happened to me.

which it has.

it's like my mouth is furry and i am THIRSTY all the time. but 10 seconds after i drink something, my mouth's all dry again. what the heck?

it's just another friendly side effect brought to you (ok me) courtesy of Desipramine.

man, i LOVE trying new drugs out. love it!

a movie review

well, now, this is a movie i'm guessing most of my readership hasn't seen. maybe doesn't want to see. that's ok. you're not missing much. but you are missing some. so that's what i'm here to tell you about.

the movie is The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. it's a movie about a kid who likes to race cars. he moves from the U.S. (i don't know where, somewhere with rich, snobby high school kids) to tokyo b/c he gets in trouble with the law. it's unrealistic from the start b/c he looks like he's nearly thirty. but, here's the key to the movie; keep your expectations low, and you'll love it.

in tokyo, he finds his way to the drift racing scene. now i'm out of it. i'd never heard of drift racing. but SERIOUSLY it is cool to watch. check out the trailer here, and especially watch around 30 seconds, and at the very end for some drift footage.

.....ok, you're back? that was rad, right? right. easily the best moment in the 'film' (we'll use that term loosely) is when the grey car drives up the ramp SIDEWAYS during a race. wow. so cool. there's also some drift racing on a mountain road. crazy.

we rented this from redbox for free (with a code from this website) and it was worth every penny. ridiculous at times, unbelievable most of the time, but some really sweet racing.

REAL content?

unbelievable.

well, it was very fun to play along with the 6 weird things meme, and read everyone else's.

in other news, there isn't much other news.

i've had this blogger window up for a couple of days now, trying to think of something witty/interesting/funny/useful to say. nada.

in truth, here's how i'm feeling tonight: like i'm a nonfunctioning member of society. i'm not a stay at home mom, i don't work, i don't go to school, i don't DO anything. i have headaches and migraines. that's what i do. i guess i'm just frustrated at feeling outside of everything. i feel like my life and the world is a blur that i can barely see through the pain.

that sounded over-dramatic. probably best to come back another day.

more cheerful content later.

6 Weird things Meme

I know a lot of others have done this meme before, but since i haven't, here goes! i was tagged by Deborah at Weathering Migraine Storms.

"According to the rules... Each player of this game starts with the "6 Weird Things about You". People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says 'you are tagged' in their comments and tell them to read your blog!"

where to begin?

1. i can pop my sternum.

2. i like to have my toenails painted all the time.

3. i own a ridiculous amount of shoes. the number is greater than 75, but i haven't counted recently. it only adds fuel to the (teasing) fire.

4. i don't like chocolate ice cream. it doesn't taste good to me.

5. every test the doctors run on me says i'm perfectly healthy, but i still have headaches all the time!

6. when my eyes water, i like to wipe my tears on my husband. yes, really. i don't know why.

i'll admit i had to have help from my husband to think of this list. and now, for the tagging! i will tag Edge, Muum, the other Emily (on the off-chance that she missed it), and Leigh Ann (again, on the offchance that she missed it). let me know if you do it!

R.I.P. Frank

my fish, Frank died while we were gone. :( i think he didn't know to eat the vacation feeder tablets. but it could have been something else. of course i feel kind of sad, b/c even though i haven't had him long, we spent the better part of everyday together, me chillin' on the bed, and him swimmin' around his tank. also i feel badly, b/c maybe it would have been a better idea to give the whole tank to someone to watch and feed him, instead of trying to do the vacation feeding tablets.
