back again

people, i've been a bad blogger. there's just no two ways about it.

one of my most faithful readers (that is, my mother-in-law) mentioned that i hadn't been blogging since i'd been feeling well. it's true! i have been reading blogs, and i have *thought* about blogging. but....there is SO MUCH TO DO! and i can do so much more these days! ah, it's a fabulous world. i feel like i'm on top of the world. it's a kind of happiness i can hardly explain......it's like i've been given my life back. that probably sounds over-dramatic, but really - it's a very apt description.

so i need to catch you all up here -- first, my pink hair -- it's faded a LOT, but here's a picture of it the week i had it done. high quality, of course, since i took it of myself, you know it's going to be good. ;)

i'll avoid any commentary about my appearance.... moving on!

the shorts i told you about? here's a picture of them on me - they're actually looser than they look, this makes them look tapered (shudder) near the knee; they're not.

and finally a little bit of a texas recap (this is going to have to take place over a few entries..) one of the places we went to eat was Chris Madrid's, in san antonio.it's a complete hole-in-the-wall, and there are t-shirts all over the wall, signed by various famous people who've eaten there. they are listed as one of AOL's 15 burgers to try before you die, and people, it just might kill you. they are FABULOUS burgers, and delicious....mostly i speak of the grease factor. ;) here's spencer's burger - he got a jalepeno cheeseburger, macho sized. i got his hand in there so you could get an idea of the massive size of this burger --

i had a 'normal' sized burger -- and it was pretty humongous as well. here's a shot of him taking his first bite -

and the deliciousness in the middle (note the jalepenos)

and here is the remains; what could not be finished. (i should note here that i did finish my burger).
wow. if you're ever nearby, you must try it. it's an experience not to be forgotten.

hello friends!

we're visiting Austin, and i'm loving it. we had lunch at Rudy's - delicious barBQ. and then this evening, we went to the capitol. we were walking around, when 2 guys (about our age, mid-early 20s) come up to us and says 'hey man, would you take our picture?'

i kind of laugh and say, 'gee i wonder why they asked YOU' -- my husband is a hobbyist photographer, and was carrying one of those SLRs around his neck at the time.

he comes back and says, they asked you first. i say, what? he says, they called you ma'am.

and i said -- i've never been called a ma'am before. (true story)

spencer says 'you're in Texas.'

welcome to the south, baby!

a little shopping expedition the other day: i have to show you what i got --

first, from the gap:
love this skirt. it was one sale for $30. i also got a pair of jeans for 20 bucks.

then at american eagle:

these were NOT ON SALE. that's really unlike me. in fact, i almost never buy anything that's not on sale. but these weren't. but i had to have them. seriously, i've been on the lookout for a pair of madras bermuda shorts for more than a year. i couldn't take the chance that my size'd be gone by the time they went on sale. (i know, the difficulties of my life, woe is me).
i also got a cool ring, but they don't have it on their site for some reason. i'll have to take pictures and show them to you on.

on the headache front, the past couple days have been rough; back to about normal badness. there's a huge storm coming through, so i think that's what's up. the headache would be even worse without the painkiller, though, i'm sure. hopefully soon we'll get back to some pain relief and good times!

this is a long one....

friends, it's the day i've been waiting for.

at last i have some GOOD NEWS on the headache front.

i had some pain relief (on and off) today!!! that's right! there were times today when my headache was so small, i could IGNORE IT. seriously.

let me start from the beginning.

i went to the pain clinic (House of Pain) yesterday. my pain doc decided that i wasn't taking enough of my painkiller -- that i needed to try it out when the pain WASN'T at its worse. to me, that's kind of counter-intuitive. mostly b/c i try to only take something when i need it; and these past years, that means when the pain is at its very worst, and i can't take it anymore. he wants me to get on a schedule of taking painkillers every 4-6 hours, and hopes that this will help me to get ahead of the pain, instead of chasing it.

(just a quick interjection here: i understand the risks associated with opiate meds, and am by no means taking this lightly; i've looked into this for a while, and have decided that it's best for me. that's not to say it's the best decision for everyone. i just don't want my faithful readers to think i'm jumping into something without understanding the problems that come with it)

onward and upward; so i took one of my painkillers (lortab) yesterday after leaving the doctor's office. my head hurt (of course), but not nearly enough to have normally taken a pill. but i took one. and the next 2 1/2 hours were blissful! i had dinner w/my hubby and we shopped, and i was able to enjoy everything so much more. of course, the pain relief only lasts 2 1/2 hours, but seriously, i'll take it for now. the plan is to see how i do with this schedule, and then i go back to the House of Pain in early June; we'll talk and decide if i should go onto a long-acting opiate.

TODAY i woke up w/the usual headachey nonsense going on. i took a painkiller w/my breakfast, and the next few hours were the most productive i've had in YEARS (seriously, years). i did the dishes, 2 loads of wash, went shopping, had lunch. wow. that's like 5x as much as i could normally do. the pain levels are up and down, but knowing i've got 2/3 good hours after i take a painkiller is SO BEAUTIFUL. i could hardly stop smiling all day.

then my dinnertime pill didn't really work -- turns out a major storm is coming in tomorrow night. so i may not be that productive tomorrow, but at least i won't be suffering as badly as normal (fingers crossed). thanks to all who have prayed for me and worked to help me through these difficult times. i'm hoping this is the beginning of a new era for me. :-)
