an interview

i asked deborah to interview me almost a week ago. and i'm finally doing it :) here are her questions for me:

1. How did you come up with the name of your Blog?

i thought for *sure* i posted about this, but couldn't for the life of me find the entry. maybe it was all in my mind. ok. so in high school, i was in marching band, and played mallet percussion instruments (marimba, xylophone, etc.) in the pit. we were technically considered part of the drum line. and every year, the drum line made t-shirts together with some ridiculous theme. one year, the theme was palindromes. whatever poor soul decided to do this, worked out a palindrome for at least some part of everyone's name. my palindrome was emily's sassy lime. (in case you don't know/remember, a palindrome read the same backwards and forwards). then about a year later, i had to come up with an email address. that was the only thing i could think of. so then, of course, when i started this blog a year or so ago, i figured i'd better incorporate the sassy lime. because, truly, i am fairly sassy. the lime? i don't know. someday i'd like to make a blog header with limes. :)

2. What is the weather like in Salt Lake City; and how long do you plan on staying?

the weather is up and down - the winters are cold cold cold - with a fair amount of snow. summers are hot and dry. spring and fall are usually pretty dry, but we get some rain. we don't really get thunderstorms like they do out east. how long do we plan to stay? at least 3 more years, probably more like 4. my husband is getting his PhD at the University of Utah (in SLC), and has about another year of classes left, and then his thesis to write. it's a combined master's and PhD program. chances are very good we won't find a job here, there isn't much in his industry that he'd be interested in. i just have to say, the mountains here are BEAUTIFUL. really.

3. Why does Tom Cruise scare you?

wow. i have to start out by saying that i've always loved his movies; far and away, top gun, -- i just love a lot of the movies he's done. but once he started getting involved w/katie holmes (i'm not blaming her by any means), he just started acting erratically in public. i feel like he's kind of making a mess of the public perception of him. the couch jumping, the joking around about eating the placenta. the thing is, when you're from a ...non mainstream religion, you have to watch what you 'joke around' about, b/c people are willing to believe anything about you. being LDS (mormon), i feel like i've got some experience with this. you need to present yourself in a true light until you know the person well enough to joke around. so to me, it's just all really scary.

4. This one, even I can't answer because it's too hard but here goes: How many different drugs have you tried to combat the migraines? Told you it was hard!

wow. lemme consult The List. ok, i can't find the list of meds. 17 is my nearest guess. i read through this list and counted. i've also had several procedures/injections that didn't work. and some of the 17 i've tried more than once.

5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

hopefully done w/migraines; having the occasional migraine (once or twice a month). i'd love for spencer and i to be settled down, starting our family, or having kids around 5,6,7, you know. what do i really think? i don't know. i think my doctors believe that is too much to hope for (headache-wise) at this point. that i should be pleased with a 50% reduction in headaches or pain. somehow, that still stinks. :) so i'll hope for the best, but try to be prepared for the worst.

Thank you so much!!! I can't wait to tell my daughter you were in drumline! She played bass this year. She'll be snare for parade band.

I couldn't even begin to count how many different drugs I've tried and failed. You did great!
