i asked deborah to interview me almost a week ago. and i'm finally doing it :) here are her questions for me:
1. How did you come up with the name of your Blog?
i thought for *sure* i posted about this, but couldn't for the life of me find the entry. maybe it was all in my mind. ok. so in high school, i was in marching band, and played mallet percussion instruments (marimba, xylophone, etc.) in the pit. we were technically considered part of the drum line. and every year, the drum line made t-shirts together with some ridiculous theme. one year, the theme was palindromes. whatever poor soul decided to do this, worked out a palindrome for at least some part of everyone's name. my palindrome was emily's sassy lime. (in case you don't know/remember, a palindrome read the same backwards and forwards). then about a year later, i had to come up with an email address. that was the only thing i could think of. so then, of course, when i started this blog a year or so ago, i figured i'd better incorporate the sassy lime. because, truly, i am fairly sassy. the lime? i don't know. someday i'd like to make a blog header with limes. :)
2. What is the weather like in Salt Lake City; and how long do you plan on staying?
the weather is up and down - the winters are cold cold cold - with a fair amount of snow. summers are hot and dry. spring and fall are usually pretty dry, but we get some rain. we don't really get thunderstorms like they do out east. how long do we plan to stay? at least 3 more years, probably more like 4. my husband is getting his PhD at the University of Utah (in SLC), and has about another year of classes left, and then his thesis to write. it's a combined master's and PhD program. chances are very good we won't find a job here, there isn't much in his industry that he'd be interested in. i just have to say, the mountains here are BEAUTIFUL. really.
3. Why does Tom Cruise scare you?
wow. i have to start out by saying that i've always loved his movies; far and away, top gun, -- i just love a lot of the movies he's done. but once he started getting involved w/katie holmes (i'm not blaming her by any means), he just started acting erratically in public. i feel like he's kind of making a mess of the public perception of him. the couch jumping, the joking around about eating the placenta. the thing is, when you're from a ...non mainstream religion, you have to watch what you 'joke around' about, b/c people are willing to believe anything about you. being LDS (mormon), i feel like i've got some experience with this. you need to present yourself in a true light until you know the person well enough to joke around. so to me, it's just all really scary.
4. This one, even I can't answer because it's too hard but here goes: How many different drugs have you tried to combat the migraines? Told you it was hard!
wow. lemme consult The List. ok, i can't find the list of meds. 17 is my nearest guess. i read through this list
and counted. i've also had several procedures/injections that didn't work. and some of the 17 i've tried more than once.
5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
hopefully done w/migraines; having the occasional migraine (once or twice a month). i'd love for spencer and i to be settled down, starting our family, or having kids around 5,6,7, you know. what do i really think? i don't know. i think my doctors believe that is too much to hope for (headache-wise) at this point. that i should be pleased with a 50% reduction in headaches or pain. somehow, that still stinks. :) so i'll hope for the best, but try to be prepared for the worst.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE INTERVIEW MEME
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions

ok people. i'm pretty understanding when it comes to fashion mis-steps. especially from stores; you know they've got to try out some new stuff and see if it catches on with the public. right? right. but this?
this is just ridiculous. not only would only the very thin look at all decent in this, but even for the very slim, it is horrendous. it recalls the days of onesies and that's just not ok. it's called a 'loop terry romper'. no. just no. old navy
, you have failed me.

i receive a daily 'google alert' -- one about migraine, and another for chronic daily headache.
today this arrived
all i can say is, they're obviously not talking about ME. some days, i'm lucky to remember my own name. :)

and i went on saturday to get our hair done; you can't see hers here b/c she's behind the flash (very tricksy). she got her usual highlight and cut, and i got my usual highlights and cut.... on the top half of my hair. the bottom half of my hair (the braid in the below picture) i had dyed pink.
so here's the highlights getting done (all the crazy foils) -- after this, we bleached out the bottom half of my hair -- it's probably for the best that we don't have a photo of this step, it was kind of eerie. it was white blond.....the underneath part of my hair. and then....
the pink dye goes on -- this is what the edge likes to call the head wound shot. looks like i have a head wound and my scalp is bleeding. thankfully, this is not the case. this is the dye on my hair, it had to process for 45 minutes. wow.
and now, this is after all the foils are out, and the dyes have all been rinsed out -- my hair is kind of half dry, half wet here. but the color is pretty true to life. i wasn't expecting it to be so ... neon. honestly. but i like it, and it'll fade.
then here's a front shot (does anyone look good with their hair wet? not me). and you can see my hairdresser, nyssa in the mirror.
the total time for all this? 5 hours. that's right. i had the highlights, the pink and a trim. wow.
when i see my (busy) husband
next, i'll see if we can find a picture of me w/my hair done -- that is, dry and fixed. for now, that's the summary and photo journal of my pink hair!
i figure i'd better add this last paragraph on WHY i'd want to dye my hair (any of it) pink. mostly for fun; i've seen it before on blondes (the shadowbox part only) and it was very cute. mostly i was just ready for something new -- and i'm pretty determined to grow out my hair, so it had to be color!

wow - 21,000 visitors! on the nose when i came to write this post today!
but seriously, i thought i'd let you guys in on one of my deep dark secrets. this is just a little quirky, delightful (ha) thing i do.
when i'm on the internet, browsing around, and have looked at every site i can think of - i look at craig's list. not for anything i NEED or would even buy, but at wedding dresses. how weird is that? i love to look at the pictures esp. of brides wearing their dresses, i guess b/c it reminds me of my wedding day (sigh, so happy). but i'm clearly not going to BUY any of them. i actually have mine posted to sell! but i can't stop looking at them! i tell myself it's ridiculous, and why would i do that? but i still do.
so what do you look at online that's hilarious? when you're wasting time?

the Soundtrack of my Life
i ripped this one off from Walking Katetastrophe
, a blog i've been reading (and loving) lately.
if my life was a movie...
if my life was a movie, what would my soundtrack be?
so, here's how it works:
1. open your music library
2. put it on shuffle
3. press play
4. for every question, type the song that's playing
5. when you go to a new question, press the next button
6. don't lie and try to pretend you're cool.
opening credits: "Two at a Time" by Guster -- very chill. not one of my favorites by them, but hey i guess i'm not choosing, right? :o)
waking up: "Train Wreck" by Sarah McLachlan -- hahaha. funny b/c when i have to get up early for something, it often feels like a train wreck - ask my hubby! but in all seriousness, i love this song. i love pretty much all of her songs. this song is from afterglow, one of her newer albums. best line? -- 'in your sweet embrace all my pain's erased'.
first day at school: "Next Year, Baby" by Jamie Cullum. i adore this song, but must take issue with his idea to 'spend less money on shoes' next year. if anything, i strive for constant growth in my shoe budget! if you like jazz, norah jones' style, you should check this guy out. he's great. what does this have to do with the first day of school? ummm we'll say i've given up before i started - and i'm just lookin' to next year. :) in love: "Long way Down" by Guster (again). get it? long way to FALL in love? huh?
fight song: "Have a Cigar" by Pink Floyd -- this does seem to have some fightin' words.
breaking up: "Maddest King of Love' by Big Bad VooDoo Daddy. 'the maddest kind of love is a love you know won't last'. what more needs to be said?
prom: "Hello, Goodbye" by the Beatles.
life's ok: Appassionata Sonata in F minor op. 57 (mvt 3) by Beethoven (performed by Vladamir Horowitz). man, how can life NOT be ok when you're listening to Horowitz playing the piano?
mental breakdown: "White Ladder" by David Gray. i wonder if we have anything else by him. or where we got this one. weird. however, the phrase 'white ladder' brings to mind a stealthy escape from the sanatorium (perhaps sheets used for the 'ladder'?) and strait jackets. perfection.
driving: "Only You" by Harry Connick Jr. T
his is a GREAT driving song, if only because it's laid back and relaxing. sigh. i guess i'd rather dance w/my hubby
to this one than drive, though. if i could choose. 'you're my dream come true, my one and only you.'flashback: "Crazy for the Girl" by Evan & Jaron. i don't know where this song came from either. but i DO know that it came out sometime ..... 5+ years ago (?) so that's perfect for a flashback. :)
getting back together: "El Condor Pasa (If I could)" by Simon and Garfunkel. i do love me some S&G, but this is not one of their best (IMHO).
birth of child: Piano Trio in d minor by Faure, performed by the Roth trio. this whole thing seems a little... anxious. i'd rather have something soothing and/or happy to represent the birth of a child. can i have a recount?
wedding: "Your Winter" by Sister Hazel. no, dude it was october. we got married in october. btw there's way too much i'm sorry, pain, and hurting in this song for a wedding song. again, we need more upbeat, lovey-dovey type music for this one.
final battle: "Tonada de la Luna Llena" by Marta Gomez. this is like if the final battle of my movie was a dance-off. sweet! my spanish is rough, but i'm pretty sure this song is about a full moon.
death scene: "Reluctant Hero" by Cheri Magill. a great song from a great singer. 'it's time that i resign as your reluctant hero'. we got her cd when we saw her live at BYU - we enjoyed her set and liked her CD even better.
funeral song: "You Don't Know Me" by Harry Connick Jr 'and anyone can tell; you think you know me well. but you don't know me. kind of a depressing funeral song. i hope that at least someone feels they know me.
end credits: "Scarborough Fair/ Canticle" by Simon and Garfunkel -- now this is a fabulous closing credits song. doesn't get any better than this.
This was a super fun meme. but then, i love music. if you're reading this (and want to play), i tag YOU!
let me know you did it in the comments so i can be sure to check it out!

lately i've been getting more and more spam sneaking its way into my INBOX. yahoo isn't doing nearly as good a job as it used to of filtering them out. i do have a gmail account, but i like to use both. here's one of the most recent letters:
From: Mrs. Helena Williams.
22 Oxford Court,
Here writes Mrs. Helena Williams, suffering from cancerous ailment. I am
married to Mr. Thomas Williams an Englishman who is dead. My husband was
into private practice all his life before his death. Our life together as
man and wife lasted for three decades without child. My husband died after
a protracted illness. My husband and I made a vow to uplift the
downtrodden and the less-privileged individuals as he had passion for
persons who cannot help themselves due to physical disability or financial
I can adduce this to the fact that he needed a Child from this
WOW. that's it. i know you're expecting it to go on. i was. good heavens, Mrs. Helena Williams stopped right in the middle of her sentence! do you think she finally succumbed to her cancerous ailment? wow. it's like every possible heart string is being pulled here: sick woman, infertile, dead husband, needs $$ to help less-priveleged individuals.
there are more on the way. it seems i won the UK lottery! what makes that especially exciting (and surprising) is that i never entered it! no matter....

another day, another fish
gill died yesterday.
in the morning, i noticed wasn't his usual perky self - he was just sitting at the bottom of the tank, not moving a whole lot. so i thought all day about what he needs/why he's sick or whatever, and then when i get home last night, he's dead. :( i wasn't fast enough to actually do anything.
so that is sad. mostly i feel irresponsible. can't even keep a fish alive.
i had a pelvic ultrasound today. that was kind of weird. because you see those pictures, black and white and grainy, and there's always a baby in there! no baby in my uterus. they're just looking to make sure nothing is physically wrong with the equipment. i have bad menstrual cramps. so that was somewhat weird.
then i went shopping with my sister, the Edge.
i know she's mentioned her fashion disability
before, but people, i'm here to tell you. what the problem is, is that she hates everything.
no just kidding. she found some great stuff - not what we came for, but then that's how shopping is. for instance.....
i wasn't looking for anything. and during my perusals of the clearance racks i found a brown leather jacket for $42. marked down from 140. wow. pictures soon to follow.
