Meme time!

I got this from The Big Trade-Off, one of my favorite mommy blogs. These are things that I would be (as opposed to things that I like)

If I Were a ______ What Would I Be?

(as a preface, i think that this may make me seem more cool than i am - those of you who know me in real life will realize this quickly; for others, you will probably realize that this is the nature of the beast; either you have to make yourself seem cool, or else you need a self deprecating sense of humor; i'm no good at the self deprecation)

CAR: i think i'd be a VW jetta; clean lines, kind of preppy/weird

Book: i don't really.............read...no j/k. if i were a book, i think i'd be 'men are from mars, women are from venus' -- don't ask why. this is the best i could think of. :)

Movie: the emperor's new groove; that's just my weird sense of humor; i laugh so much at that movie...

Weather: sunny and clear, with passing thunderstorms (migraines)

Drink: dr. pepper - best soda ever; has kind of a fun and DELICIOUS taste, different from all the other colas

Ice Cream Flavor: it's gotta be moose tracks -- i just love it soooo much , that's what i've GOT to be

Song or Genre of Music: classical; i'm a by-the-books kind of gal; probably more so than i'd like.

Shoe: black heels; i'd rather be overdressed than underdressed; i feel like they go with pretty much everything. also, just for the record, i've got to mention that i seriously <3 shoes. big time.

Website: homestarrunner.com - i seriously love this site; yes i know i'm a total geek

Food: ICE CREAM: not that i. 'm cold and spiteful, but just that i feel like there are many different types of people i get along with; i love to meet people who are different from me, and learn from them -

Tag yourself and leave your link in the comments!

what?!?

i'm pretty sure that kids should come with instruction manuals. for instance, last night, my charge says 'i don't like my sauce heated. don't heat my sauce please.' what"?!? who eats hot pasta with cold marinara sauce? odd. the peculiarities continue. it's like she thinks I"M the strange one; i tried having the 'i'm not exactly the same as your mom; we do some things DIFFERENTLY' talk with her. but....this was clearly ineffectual, as her oddities continue....as we were shopping, she declared that 'sour cream is not good for her, her mom told hr that from the beginning' (what?>!)......i know she's not allergic -- i think she was trying to tell me she doesn't like sour cream. but - i'm talkin about sour cream and onion chips, you know?

and lastly, she pretty much had a conniption fit when she couldn't get to the barbie.com website. while i'm sympathetic to her situation, the i haed jut bonked my head (i'd like to say she was kind when this happened, but actually she laughed) six year olds. this babysitting thing = tough.

monday, monday -- so good to me...

it's been something of a crazy day. tonight starts our short foray into child care. my sister is on vacation, so we're staying at her house and taking care of her six-year old daughter. so i of course spent most of the day getting ready to come here, packing, cleaning, taking things out to the trash, etc. now we're here, and i'm coming to you LIVE from my sister's house! magnificent.

right now my 'charge' is playing Sims; yelling at one of her creations to 'use the toilet!' earlier, there was a fire in the house, and the dad died. not one to lose any time or emotion over this, she told me she 'thought she could make another dad.' well then. i guess so!

all in all, i've been feeling pretty good today. even with all the preparations. this is good. ;) thanks for visiting, fair reader.

it's Friiiiiiiiiiiiiiday!

i've taken a little blogging hiatus -- i wish i could say there was a reason, but truly there isn't much of one. :-) one bit of excitement; i found the settlers of catan online; a game you can download, so i've played that a few times.

also my husband is going camping for a little part of this weekend, with the church's young men; on cue, it started snowing this morning. so i'm somewhat concerned about their freezing to death/catching pneumonia....you know.

so if you *really* want to know the reason i'm blogging now, it's because my kitchen is a mess and i'm putting off cleaning it. there! I SAID IT!

an update for TUESDAY!

not a lot to say really; for those (few) of you who follow this blog, we STILL have not turned on the heat; salt lake city temp is going strong at 25 degrees; at this time i have two pairs of socks on, as well as a jacket over my long sleeved t-shirt. please don't worry about us, we're not so poor that we couldn't turn on the heat; we are just cheap. soooooooo we're gonna go as long as we can w/out turning it on. my feet are nice and toasty. :)

also, i went to the craft store with my sister and picked out wreath makings. i somewhat made a christmas wreath, but truly it was more like assembling parts....now i'm going to for real make a wreath. i enjoy so much having it on the front door; the christmas one is still there! so i'm going to make a spring wreath; it is a twig base, and then will have silk daisies and mini daffodils on it; as well as a blue and white gingham ribbon. sounds cute. we shall see.

currently listening to: lizz wright...a new cd we got by default from BMG. don't ask. anyways, i am really liking most of the tracks. the girl is seriously good looking. but in any case -- rock on.

Monday, January 23, 2006
welcome to monday!

hopefully yours is starting off as well as mine! i'm in a surprisingly good mood today, optimistic and looking forward to getting things done. our apartment is **CLEAN** so i'm sure that has something to do with my elation. i love love love having my house clean; it makes me feel like i can tackle anything!

today what i really need to tackle is just the grocery shopping!

up up and away!

learning something new every day..

well i'm feeling better today; this is good. i read the two weeks' worth of newspapers that had stacked up. some cool (and not so cool) stuff has been going on. since ya'll probably read the news, i won't bore you with that. i also talked to my sister for the first time in a while; that was good. her family is doing good.

spencer and i had ramen for lunch; when i brought it over to him he goes 'where's the broth?' and i'm thinking......broth? he leaves the water in so that ramen is like a soup.....in my family we've always drained it out so there was just flavored noodles. neat. love to learn something new about my hubby! sadly, though it meant he got dry noodles.

everything's here, wish you were fine...

so i'm still sick, but i think i'm improving! i am working on eating really plain, easy to digest foods. for lunch: applesauce and pasta. the pasta has no sauce. soooo hopefully tonight i'll be feeling better. last night was miserable; if i moved, i felt ike i was going to puke. sometimes even when i didn't move, i'd think i was gonna puke, so i'd have to run to the bathroom, which only induced more feelings of nausea......miraculously, i never ACTUALLY threw up. i just felt like i was going to a lot of the time.

so hopefully i'm on the upswing.

no car alarms last night, or if there were i didn't hear them (thank you nyquil).....

we have also made plans to have friends over on sunday for dinner, i'm excited to see them again. they're a couple we knew from BYU, and he is undergoing some career changes, so i'm excited to hear about that. and SHE is pregnant, so i always love to hear about THAT! babies, baby plans, etc. you know. girl stuff..

the joys of apartment living....

so last night, right about 3:52 am, a car alarm starts going off outside. in case that wasn't enough, it went on (uninterrupted) for thirty more minutes. the noise went something like this: BWEEP BAP BAP BAP BWEEP BAP BAP BAP .......ad nauseum. even with earplugs in, i could still clearly hear this car alarm. after about ten minutes, i decided that the owner must be blissfully asleep in the apartment complex, too far away to hear his car alarm. unfortunately for those of us right next to the parking lot, he probably wouldn't notice till 6 or 7 the next morning, whenever he usually leaves for the day. wow. the full weight of that idea had hit me, and i was trying valiantly to get some sleep when FINALLY someone shut it off. i hope that it was the owner. but if it were someone else.......i hope they didn't steal it.

isn't it interesting that car alarms are so different from house alarms? no one goes running up to a car when the alarm goes off, because they go off accidentally ALL THE TIME! people pay no attention to car alarms at all! i'm pretty sure we need something new.

in any case, i'm sick again with what i had earlier this month. at least it seems like the same thing to me. sick.

i feel pretty, oh so pretty....

so here's the deal: yesterday i didn't put on makeup or anything, i actually didn't even get out of my pajamas......i was in bed with that headache nearly all day.

the day before yesterday (saturday) i woke up too late to shower, so i was looking pretty fronky all day. *(yes i realize fronky isn't a real word BUT it suits the need here) -- so today when i got up (feeling reasonably good) and showered and put on makeup, i'm lookin at myself in the mirror like, 'hey hot stuff!' this makeup stuff, it can do wonders, i tell you. ;-)

Sunday, January 15, 2006

ok, so how cool is THIS? pretty darn cool, i know. i was telling my sisters about it the other day, so there it is! expensive i know; especially since it's expensive anyways to make ice cream. but neat for sure.

i got to see my fam yesterday; we went to see a movie together in downtown SLC - called Joseph Smith, prophet of the restoration. it was really good. afterwards we hung out at my sister's house and talked for a few hours. it was so good to see them all.

i have now talked to everyone who was there on Christmas day, and have not solved the mystery of the lost christmas presents. tragic. i'll make another thorough search of the apartment tomorrow. the thing is, my sisters and i all got (kind of) the same thing - similar enough that someone could've accidentally grabbed mine without noticing. but such is not the case. :( i continue my search. onward and upward!!

it's sunday -- and i'm home. :-( i couldn't go to church today b/c of this raging headache. i am truly a human barometer. i woke up w/this awful headache, and once it didn't get any better (after breakfast and meds) i decided it must be a storm coming. spencir opened up the window and told me it's here. it's snowing and junk here. sadly, the sudden shift of weather is the call for my migraines to go above and beyond the call of duty (as in, super bad) -- so that's what's up w/me. couldn't go to church today -- i took my migraine acute meds, so hopefully soon i'll just be asleep. then when i wake up in a few hours, i'll be feeling better. headache will be better, but i will feel like i've been hit by a mac truck. i guess you've gotta make choices, right?

so last night we saw aeon flux. can't say it was that great. in theory, i think it could've been a rad movie, but in execution it was poor. too much action/violence, poor diologue, and (in my humble opinion) not enough character development. i did like the story and the idea, tho.

my new title

i am officially a 'web programmer'. you're thinking, be serious emily *(especially if you know me) -- but it's true. my husband said so. and he really IS a web programmer. mainly i only figured out how to make the blogs i love links over here ----------------> so in all actuality, that's not even very impressive. but it's a big step!

random things..........

hello fair reader;

it has been another long yet unproductive day. head is hurting, and i've been resting nearly all day. hooray for the weekend tomorrow! husband and i are going to spend some time in the afternoon w/my fam -- and since aeon flux just got to the $1 theater, we'll probably go see that tomorrow night. it has the potential to be a great sci-fi movie, but also has the potential to crash big time. ah the dollar theater. seriously, could we be anymore cool? i don't think so.

so i got my nails done yesterday, they are looking hot.

ah, one more important thing; one of the mommy blogs i read got nominated for best mommy blog award......go check it out, and then if you want.......go vote for her! she cracks me up - that's the reason for the shameless plug.

la dentista!

well, it went really well at the dentists'. this is a huge surprise, of course, b/c usually going to the dentist is a traumatic experience and he ALWAYS seems to have bad news for me. thankfully not this time! no bad news given, no pain endured.

ah life is bliss.

new format

pink! i like it. i think it was time for a change :)

grrrr.....i'm afraid this post is just going to be a rant -- one not making a lot of sense, probably. i just got off the phone about an hour ago with someone (from an unnamed company) -- who unfortunately possesses power over my future. gah. so anyways, the conversation didn't go well. hmm. that's an understatement. it went badly. i was crying by the time it was finished. which is (by the way) absolutely NO reflection on said person on the other end of the phone line, just more a reflection of his company's policy, which he was unlucky enough to have to explain to me.

i feel sometimes like i have one goal, and continually i run up into brick walls set in my path. there's that saying, when God closes a door, somewhere he opens a window. i am getting really tired of climbing through windows! couldn't He open a door? anyways, it seems like there is nothing set in place for people in my 'situations'.....chronic illness.....migraines that last more than a year. that's understandable, i guess, but then it would seem like there would be some recourse, somewhere to go and talk to someone or some committee about getting such a policy (or exception) made!

apparently not.

huh. well last night, my same front tooth was hurting; this has been going on for like a month now. but it's not a subte kind of hurting, more of a sudden, sharp pain whenever air hits it. so i was thinking i had a cavity or something? who knows. in any case, i was closely examining my teeth last night, looking for signs of irregularity.......

that tooth is chipped! ack. craziness. you'd think i would have noticed chipping a tooth, but apparently not! blech. so now i need to call the dentist (ok first FIND a dentist) and make an appointment, and hope they can get this taken care of. at least now i kind of know what's goin on.

:)

red robin

ah yum. spencer and i went out to dinner tonight; another horrible day for headache. we decided on red robin....yummy. as some of you may know, they have bottomless fries -- so we're enjoying our dinner, when our waitress comes over and asks my husband 'how's your fry situation?' -- of course he wanted more, but that's not the point. we decided that was a cool way to ask. how's YOUR fry situation today? hopefully good.

also i read a little meme - i like that it's short! that's the best kind. so here goes:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around and look for the “coolest” book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.

here's mine: 'Grease was waiting by the front door when she got home.'

want to play?

enquiring minds want to know...

well, my readers have asked; where is the pigeon? how is he? sadly, he is no more. :( he must have been an old pigeon, because just this past weekend, he died. very sad. i have some pictures in the camera, i'll post them later.

the weekend was totally uneventful, so far the new medicine trial has been completely ineffectual. que sopresa. i got to see my sisters today, so that was fun! we met over at one of my sisters' house, and hung out for a while. while i was sitting on the stairs, my nephew climbed up on me, banging my head into the banister. yeow that hurt. then he proceeded to climb up onto my shoulders, wrapping his little arms around my head and saying 'i hold on tight' -- apparently my sitting there was like a sign; its time for you to get a ride on my shoulders....anyways, so he climbs up there, and i'm just baffled entirely by everything, my head is hurting, and suddenly he starts saying 'stand up' repeatedly, and at increasing volumes.....finally i say, 'please don't yell in my ear' because seriously, that is a LOT of volume! so then he whispers 'stand up' in my ear. i just lost it (his mom too) we laughed and laughed....and anyways, i stood up and gave him a little ride. i love those kids so much - it's always so wonderful to spend time with them.

and *that* my friends, was pretty much my day. after that i came home and rested in bed. i watched the aviator (which was an okay movie, and not at all what i expected.) speaking of movies, though, my husband and i saw Dreamer last week, and i really loved it. i thought it was awesome. so i'll just publicly announce that and recommend it to all of you!

TGIF!!

well it's been another red-letter day! (no communist undertones intended) -- husband stayed home again and worked from home. that's always fun. i was feeling a lot worse than yesterday, so i was resting in bed nearly all day. we did go out to dinner for our friday night date night -- went to leatherby's, which (in case you're not familiar with it) is an ice cream parlor/diner kind of place. we both had the philly cheesesteak sandwiches and split a dish of ice cream afterwards. so leaving, i was comfortably full. NOW, an hour later, i am uncomfortably full. a half hour ago, i was so full i thought i was going to be sick. sorry to gross you out.

we also went to get a video game to play together. now, i am not a video gamer. i just don't play video games. i especially dislike shooting games, i am pitifully bad at driving games, and have no interest at all in sports games. that doesn't leave much. but we bought the myst first 3 set - it includes myst, riven, and myst III. i'm kind of excited. should be fun. :)

that's about it on the homefront. hope you all are doing great, readers!

way to go, Doctor!

so he finally called me back - this time inside ONE WEEK~! i'm really pleased. that sounds ridiculous, but we'll take improvement wherever we can.

so i got a little bit of cleaning done, finished picking up the front room and cleaning the kitchen and bathroom......but i wore myself out and of course made my headache worse....it's tough b/c i know i need to 'take it easy', but there's work to be done, and i feel up to doing it.....so how am i supposed to just sit on my behind? you know? anyways, it's a problem most people would be glad to have, but after a year of it, i'm ready for something new! :)

so the dr. - he said that the blood results came back and that i have a good amount of the antiseizure med in my blood (hooray) - and since i'm having no seizures, we'll keep it where it is! however, the headaches are still here ...some days, which is better than every day.....but not good enough to be a productive member of society - to say, go to school, or work, or anything like that. so we continue in our hunting. now we try the meds i have tried before (which didn't work) in combination with the antiseizure med, hoping that they will work! luckily, we're starting w/one that has a generic. medicine = expensive, and our insurance (us being college students) doesn't cover it. at all. just makes no allowance for it. sooooo we like the meds that have a generic version A LOT! we'll try this one for a while, it's a beta-blocker called propranonol. with this one, i'll have to be getting my blood pressure checked routinely, to make sure it doesn't go too low. i tend towards low blood pressure anyways, so we don't want things to just up and stop, you know? :) that's the result.....call him in two weeks. :)

ah, thursday. you are my favorite day. :)

i'm feeling better today, and am really grateful for it! lots of important stuff to do today; mostly clean -- so i'd better get my behind out from in front of the computer and in gear!!!

yay for BOOKS !!!!

Introducing the new Bio-Optic Organized Knowledge device,
trade named: BOOK

BOOK is a revolutionary breakthrough in technology: no
wires, no electric circuits, no batteries, nothing to be
connected or switched on. It's so easy to use, even a child
can operate it.

Compact and portable, it can be used anywhere -- even
sitting in an armchair by the fire -- yet it is powerful
enough to hold as much information as a CD-ROM disc. Here's
how it works:

BOOK is constructed of sequentially numbered sheets of paper
(recyclable), each capable of holding thousands of bits of
information. The pages are locked together with a custom-fit
device called a binder, which keeps the sheets in their
correct sequence.

Opaque Paper Technology (OPT) allows manufacturers to use
both sides of the sheet, doubling the information density
and cutting costs. Experts are divided on the prospects for
further increases in information density; for now, BOOKs
with more information simply use more pages.

Each sheet is scanned optically, registering information
directly into your brain. A flick of the finger takes you to
the next sheet. BOOK may be taken up at any time and used
merely by opening it.

Unlike other display devices, BOOK never crashes or requires
rebooting, and it can even be dropped on the floor or
stepped on without damage. However, it can become unusable
if immersed in water for a significant period of time. The
"browse" feature allows you to move instantly to any sheet
and move forward or backward as you wish. Many come with an
"index" feature, which pinpoints the exact location of
selected information for instant retrieval.

An optional "BOOKmark" accessory allows you to open BOOK to
the exact place you left it in a previous session -- even if
the BOOK has been closed. BOOKmarks fit universal design
standards; thus, a single BOOKmark can be used in BOOKs by
various manufacturers. Conversely, numerous BOOKmarkers can
be used in a single BOOK if the user wants to store numerous
views at once. The number is limited only by the number of
pages in the BOOK.

You can also make personal notes next to BOOK text entries
with an optional programming tool, the Portable Erasable Nib
Cryptic Intercommunication Language Stylus (PENCILS).

Portable, durable, and affordable, BOOK is being hailed as a
precursor of a new entertainment wave. Also, BOOK's appeal
seems so certain that thousands of content creators have
committed to the platform and investors are reportedly
flocking. Look for a flood of new titles soon.

Received from jakallin.

well it was rather an uneventful day -- spencer came home really early, which was great. we went to the dollar theater and saw Dreamer. it was SO good. i definitely would recommend it...i think we may even buy it when it comes out on DVD. i loved it.

i'm pretty much entirely over the cold now, so that's really wonderful. unfortunately, the headaches continue. and for some reason, completely unbeknownst to me, my back was hurting and spasming today. weird.

my darling pigeon pet

so - here's the deal - i went outside earlier today (to our little balcony) and o ho! there was a pigeon out there! he (she? it?) was just sitting on the ground; he flapped around a little bit once i opened the door, but once he could tell i had no malicious intentions, he calmed down and continued his sitting (roosting? is that what they call it?) in any case, i think that Mr. pigeon may be hurt, maybe that's why he's hanging out on our balcony. or maybe, he's cold. also maybe he's noticed our bird feeder full of bird feed, and he wants it all to himself. in any case, i clearly have acquired a pigeon.

and the best part about it, is that my apartment complex can't charge me their exorbitant 'pet fees' for this one; he adopted me, ya'll! i'll have to post a picture soon. he is a skitterish little bugger though. he's gonna have to get used to me going out there *once* in a while. (our storage is out there too).....

lest you think this was a one-time occurence, i left for walgreens, (he was there), and came back awhile later. STILL THERE! does this prove it or what?

back to normal life it looks like......

spencer is back at work today, leaving me with the ghastly mess that is our apartment. seriously, i have never seen our place look so bad. to comfort those of you who know and care about us, it's not a dirty mess, it's just STUFF everywhere. mostly christmas stuff that hasn't found a home yet. but there is a lot of it, and a lot of clothes from packing, unpacking, etc.,.....so someone (me) needs to get down to business today. and pick stuff up!

really, posting right now is just a device to delay the inevitable.....i could have gone to the grocery store with my sister if i was *really* in procrastination mode, but to be honest, i don't need to buy anything. it would've been a total sham. :( we went over to my sister's house last night for dinner - they had fondue! she got a new fondue set for christmas (from our other sister), and it was time to try it out! i tell you, if you've never had fondue with toddlers, you're really missing out. it was good times. all the things you dip in the cheese (bread, crackers, sausage, broccoli, etc.) were lined up by them, stockpiled by them, etc....and on of her kids really got into the dipping thing. the other two, not so much. but it was super fun.

ah life.

i [heart] the

it's 2006

thank you department of redundancy department.

in any case, it looks like the new year is here. i don't have any 'new year's resolutions', so if that's what you're looking for, you're gonna have to look elsewhere! sure, i have things i want to change about myself, but i would like to think i'm realistic enough to realize that trying to change them all at once is probably not the most effective way to go. am i right? if i decide that i'm going to exercise 5 times a week and eat better and call my family more often and cook at home more often (vs. going out to eat).....i'm gonna get tired of that REAL quick. so i think i'll continue with my current modus operandi, which is to try and work on one thing at once, (regardless of what time of the year it is), and then move onto something else when i give up on that/ accomplish that goal. ;) whichever.

so happy new year's...............................i'm still feeling pretty crappy. this cold (or whatever bug it is) is hanging on. i'm i'm *really* not enjoying it in combination with my usual migraine. i still have some post-christmas returns/exchanges/gift card shopping to do....i am really hoping that i feel up to it this week. i'm just dying to go to the gap and spend my gift card!!!!!!!!!!!wheeeeee!
